Participatory Democracy
The Greens envision a democracy where every citizen can express their views and actively participate in environmental, economic, social, and political decisions that impact their lives. Our goal is to decentralize power and responsibility, focusing on local and regional communities, and only delegating authority to higher levels when absolutely necessary.
To achieve this, we advocate for access to relevant information and education for all, dismantling barriers to democratic particiaption based on wealth and power, and building grassroots institutions that promote civic vitality and community responsibility. We emphasize the importance of youth involvement in political life and decision-making, and we demand transparency, truthfulness, and accountability from elected representatives. We also support transparent and democratic electoral systems, based on proportional representation, with publicly funded elections and strict regulations on corporate and private donations.

Participatory democracy in Simcoe North
The Simcoe North Greens support the work of groups like Make Every Vote Count, a champion for proportional electoral reform since 2012. We believe that with the right information, voter apathy and low turnout, especially among younger and disadvantaged voters can be changed.
Issues with the existing voting system continue to support Simcoe North's long history of representation by one traditional party. With younger, progressive and diverse demographics, we can turn this habit around. Improved access to and participation by all communities within the riding will result in representation by a party who champions community needs.
